Archbishop Molloy Track and Field

 

            The 2003 outdoor season has been extremely successful for the athletes in the Archbishop Molloy Track And Field Program.  Star pole-vaulters Andrew O’Connor and Ian Cassidy continue to break CHSAA and school records and cop major championships.  Andrew tied the CHSAA record indoors with a best of 15’6 and has jumped 15’ outdoors.  Ian has cleared 15’ both indoors and out. They have cleared 15’ twelve times.     The boys won: New Balance, BQ Champs, CHSAA Intersectional Champs, Mayor’s Meet, St John’s, St Anthony’s and the Loucks Invitational. They scored medals at the Loughlin Games, Eastern States, NY State Champs, Indoor Nationals and the Penn Relays. 

            Our varsity boy’s won class medals at Penn in the 1600 MR (3:30.32).  A strong group of sprinters and distance runners include: Vincent, McKienzie, DeMaria, Andrieux, Chukwuogo, Mullan, Chouloute, Costanzo and Vernaci.  Boy’s BQ are on Wed  May 14th and the City Champs are on May 24th.

Our varsity girl’s captured a Penn Relays Class Plaque winning their heat in 4:12.23. (Diffendale Lebron McEntee Arcarola).  The Girl’s Varsity Sectional Champion-

ships are on May 17th and the CHSAA Champs are May 24th.

The freshman girls won the CHSAA Outdoor Citiy Championships scoring 64.5 points ahead of 2nd place St Francis (36).  Individual City Championships were won by: Cooney (HJ 4’ 6), Arcarola (TJ 32’8 and 400 61.0), Wroblewski (Discus 67’8 and Shot 27’7. 5), Russell (HH 17.7) and the 1600 MR (Fleming, Zervos, Dreyer and Pastina) captured gold city champ medals.

The sophomore girls had a very successful City Champions placed third.  Soph City Champions: McEntee ( LJ 15’ 7), Scazzero (HH 18.7) and Katsarelis ( Jav 106’6).  Katsarelis improved her school record to 108’8 copping 5th at Loucks.

 Sophomore boys easliy won their BQ Sectional Championships by 50 points.   Soph BQ champs were: Davis (HH and IH), Forlenza (3200), Taylor (HJ), Leung (PV) Ferouqi (TJ) and Tierney (Shot).  The freshmen finished 2nd losing the BQ title by 2 points.  Top freshmen boys include:  Shields (400 55.4 – 200 24.7), Spataro (TJ 35’10), Weber (PV 8’), Megerdichian (Jav 97’5) and Niec (HH 19.1).

Our 150 member track and field team has won 1252 medals this year.
